Blagojevich Begins 14-year prison term

1.) Do you think this situation was handled well?

Answer: Yes I belive that the situation was handled very well. Even know he said that this was the hardest thing he did he had it coming. He had 17 guilty verdicts against him. Thats his fault he tried to appoint someone to talk Barack Obama's senate seat.-Joseph Stewart

Yes, I think that the situation was handled well. Why would he try to sell the president's senate seat. I think 14 years in jail is good enough. He has been trying to sale the president's senate seat since 2010. he had called his actions a dark and hard journey. He also said that it was the hardest thing he had to do to say goodbye to the people of Chicago.-Damar Jones
2.) Do you think what he did was ok?

No what he did was not right in any way. But I don't feel that a case of corruption is called for such a long time in jail. There are many other people who do much worse things than he has. And he also has a family, but I know that doesn't mean he should get special treatment. I just feel sorry for him as a person I wouldn't want to be away from my family for 14 years. What he did isn’t okay but doesn’t deserve such a hard punishment. - Courtney Parker

I do not think what Rob Blagojevich did was ok. You don’t that type of stuff to the president of the united states. I could understand the president of a student body but the united states of america? That’s just wrong. But then again maybe he didn’t do what they accused of doing. So I would have to read about the evidence that they got if they have any but other than that, I think what he did was really wrong. - Khyra <3

3.) Why are the people defending him?

4.) Why did it take so long for this to get through?

Summary
Former Illinois governor Rob Blagojevich was sentenced 14 years in prison on a corruption conviction on March 15th. He stood outside his Chicago home wednesday before reporting to prison, he told a crowd of sign-wilding supporters, “This was the hardest thing i`ve ever had to do,”.He was convicted of corruption since June of 2011 after he was returned 17 guilty verdicts against him.He was accused of trying to profit as he considered whom to appoint to take Barack Obama`s senate seat. He called his actions a “dark and hard journey,” and said he should have had been more humble in the situation. Probably the hardest thing he had to do was say goodbye to the people of chicago that Wednesday. People have been waiting since yearly 2011 and some even since 2010, people have been waiting for a word if he would go or not to prison. He seemed to have handled this very well and very professionally.

Guilty verdict in Rutgers webcam spying case
http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/16/justice/new-jersey-rutgers-trial/index.html?hpt=us_c2

1.) Should schools monitor websites their students browse?

Answer: Yes it think that to a cretin level they should monitor school websites. Unless they are on there own personal laptop. Just to make such that nothing is happening at the school or around the campus. Then again they would need to have a good reason to be monitoring the computers, not just to be noisy. In this case to student should have not taken the matter in his hands, he should have to an admiration.- Joseph Stewart

I don’t think that schools should monitor websites their students browse. Not everybody does inappropriate things on the computer. Some people just do what they got to do and get off even if there on their social network pages. I think that the schools should trust all their students until proven other wise. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover because you wouldn’t want the students to do that to you if you were in their shoes. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. - Khyra <3

I agree with Khyra here, students need privacy and by the school monitoring what they do is an invasion of ones privacy.- Roberto Rosas

2.) What would you do in this case?

In my opinion what Dharun did was completely immature and should need go without punishment. His behavior made a person commit suicide. What Dharun did was uncalled for. He had no right to video tape someone just because they were secretly gay. And now because of his actions Tyler Clementi’s family will never see hi again. Although I am not a person to hold a grudge against someone I wouldn’t blame Tyler's family if they did. - Courtney Parker

3.) Should there have been sexual discrimination charges involved?

4.) Why do you think sentencing was handled differently in this case?

5.) Why do you think Tyler committed suicide?
I think that Tyler committed suicide because his roommate found out that he was gay. His roommate used a webcam to spy on him. Im think that what his roommate did was wrong. I think that what Tyler's roommate did was wrong. he disrespected Tyler's privacy and had to be punished, mostly because Tyler committed suicide. 10 yaers in jail is a fair punishment.-Damar Jones

I think Tyler committed suicide because of the fact that some people can’t take this kind of stress. Some people can’t take this pressure. Being bullied by a person that barely knows you. And being gay is hard for some people to tell others. He probably didn’t want to deal with the world anymore. Although I don’t agree with the decision in committing suicide I can see why he did it. - Courtney Parker

Summary
Dharun Ravi, a former Rutgers university student, was accused of spying on and intimidating his gay roommate by use of verbal slang, and the use of a hidden webcam was found guilty Friday of all counts. Dharun faces up to 10 years in jail and deportation to his native India. His roommate, Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old freshman, committed suicide in september 2010 by jumping off the George Washington Bridge and into the chilling waters of the Hudson River. CNN legal analyst Paul Callan called Fridays verdict “unprecedented,” stating that it “sends a message to people across the rest of the country” about the potential consequences of unauthorized webcam use in an age of expanding social media. New Jersey enacted a law that said if you secretly record someone engaged in an intimate act with a webcam or any other kind of video and you broadcast that without their permission, that is a crime. And because prosecutors were able to prove that Ravi`s actions were born of a gay bias, the possible sentence doubles from up to five years to 10 years being locked up. Clementi`s death stirred discussion about cyber bullying, with Obama releasing a videotaped message condemning it. A few months later, New Jersey legislators enacted stricter laws to protect against bullying in schools. Ravi, who had been studying on a visa at the New Jersey University, did not testify on his own behalf.

Mexico Earthquake

1.) Do you think Mexico was ready for an earthquake?

I can’t really say weather they were prepared for the earthquake or not. But I feel no city, town, state, or country is ever ready for a natural disaster. They are just things you can’t predict and rarely can avoid. But if you lived on an island or something and the island was a huge volcano then maybe you should have some sort of plan to get off they island if it erupts. But in mexico I don’t think things like that happen that frequently. So no I don’t think they were ready for the earthquake. - Courtney Parker

No, I don’t think that Mexico was ready for an earthquake. I don’t think NOBODY can say that their really ready for a earthquake. Like who would actually take the time out of their day to predict that a earthquake is coming soon so we need to get ready. I don’t believe that anybody actually would believe them if they tell people that’s outside of their family. I know I wouldn’t. So no, I don’t think that Mexico was ready for an earthquake. - Khyra <3

I agree with both of your comments. I don't think ANY country or any single person is ready for an earthquake. Even if a person says he/she is ready for an earthquake, it wont always happen, it might take a year maybe even 35 years till the next earthquake- Roberto Rosas

2.) Why do you think the magnitude changes a lot?

3.) Where there any reports of damage?
No, there were no immediate reports of serious damage. there was a report of the quake to be a magnitude of 7.4. the epicenter was about 15 miles east of Ometepec, Guerrero, and its depth was about 12.4 miles. residents rushed into the streets after feeling the temblor in Mexico Cit, about 200 miles away from the epicenter. Earthquakes are a frequent experience for more then 20 million residents of mexico City.
Answer: According to the summary there were no serious damages or injuries. A Twitter post says that that there were no immediate reports. Although i did not catch any residents off guard they said that they are frequent.- JOseph Stewart

4.) When was Mexico's last earthquake?

5.) In what mexican state and city did the earthquake take place?

The earthquake took place in Mexico City. I can see way near Mexico City though. It’s somewhat close to the equator. And thinks like natural disasters happen near the equator. And it was also about 200 miles away from the epicenter. It cause an awful amount of damage. - Courtney Parker
